Kathryn Neale
Designing for family, nature and density
Graduate of Architecture / Public Sector Project Manager
By day, Kathryn works as a Senior Project Manager in the public sector, leading the design and delivery of major health infrastructure projects while balancing the demands of raising a young family. Alongside her professional career, she maintains an ongoing curiosity about how broader social, economic and planning forces shape the spaces we inhabit - an interest first explored during her Masters of Architecture, through the design and fabrication of furniture for compact living.
After hours, that research has evolved into a lived architectural experiment through the transformation of her own home: a modest 1950s dwelling on a battle-axe lot along a busy suburban thoroughfare. Through careful spatial planning and the preservation of mature trees, Kathryn challenges assumptions about density, demonstrating how compact sites can support generous family life, strong connections to nature, and a more sustainable suburban future.
