Between precision and imperfection
Kate Maiden
Kate Maiden is an Adelaide based Architectural Graduate and creative practitioner. Her ceramics practice has emerged alongside her architectural work as a counterpoint to the precision and technical resolution of professional design practice, developed through experience working across Sydney and Adelaide.
While her architectural work is grounded in spatial logic, coordination and detail resolution, ceramics offers a slower and more intuitive mode of making. One that embraces irregularity, tactility and imperfection. Through small vessels and functional forms, she explores quiet textures, earthy finishes and the material language of handmade objects. Developed in the margins of evenings and weekends, this body of work forms a parallel practice that re-engages her with material processes outside the structures and demands of professional production.
